The company, Afrinest Engineering Ltd, was registered in 2018 in Rwanda with the purpose of investing in the region through engineering services in marine, tourism and other related fields. This report relates to the marine & transport interests of the company.

Upon identification of, and obtaining recognition in, the marine opportunities of Africa’s great lakes region, a decision was made to commit resources and invest in a maritime academy & marine support complex to develop skills and infrastructure to support and exploit growth in the inland water transport sector.

VISION | What we want the business to be...

The company intends developing a first-class international marine academy & maritime support complex in Karongi, from which; All pertinent human resources skills development are instructed for Africa’s inland lakes and rivers; House internationally recognised expert professional consulting services for all aspects of the marine industries on the continent; Focus on the export of Rwandan manufactured boats, ships and supporting services to the continent, and; Maintain a market- dominant position in the provision of all marine services across central/ east Africa and the African Lakes region.

MISSION | How we intend achieving our vision...

A lake-side site 7km south of Kibuye is under development to offer; A 2’568sqm factory to fabri- cate, assemble and maintain all sizes of lake-certified ships; A separate 250sqm small boat mechan- ical workshop; The building of a 4-storey office block to house a 1047sqm training academy; The academy building is to house a post-graduate college/design studio with private consulting offices over, and; The addition to the factory of marine shop to supply all applicable marine motors, safety gear, after-care and maintenance coupled to the academy practical studio/ engine shop space.

GOALS | What we need to accomplish to meet the strategy...

The development of the Afrinest Marine Complex (AMC) will be achieved in stages; Phase 1, near- ing completion, is to obtain all statutory permissions and clear all hinderance to the development of the said site; Phase 2 requires the erecting and commissioning of the factory building and secure bridge financing; Phase 3 is to deliver on the contracts in hand and procure others; Phase 4 is to service loans and reinvest in the company.

The development and delivery of the academy will be managed independently and in parallel to the AMC to meet obligations and strong motivations from national interests.

OBJECTIVES | The specific actions and timelines to meet the goals...

In the development of the AMC the company is working to tight deliverables imposed upon it through numerous supply contract obligations. The sequence and timing of projects are provided elsewhere. Against the same contractual delivery obligations (as detailed hereunder) the academy facilities will require attention independently to ensure it develops to the expectations and excel- lence demanded of such a service.
